Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my award?

Use the search bar above to search by your job title (e.g. 'barista', 'nurse', 'mechanic') or industry. Your employer must tell you which award applies to your employment. You can also use the Fair Work Commission's 'Find my award' tool at fairwork.gov.au.

What is the national minimum wage in Australia?

The national minimum wage is $24.10 per hour (or $915.80 per week for a 38-hour week) from 1 July 2025. This is the minimum rate for award-free employees. Most employees covered by a Modern Award will receive at least this amount at their Level 1 classification.

When do pay rates change?

Award pay rates are reviewed annually by the Fair Work Commission as part of the Annual Wage Review. New rates typically take effect from the first full pay period on or after 1 July each year. The 2025-26 rates reflect a 3.75% increase.

What is the difference between base rate and casual rate?

The base rate (or ordinary hourly rate) is what permanent full-time and part-time employees receive. The casual rate includes a 25% casual loading on top of the base rate to compensate for the lack of paid leave, notice of termination, and redundancy pay.
