The minimum pay rate for transport workers is $24.95/hr under the Transport Award. Casuals receive $31.19/hr (base + 25% loading). Rates effective from 1 July 2025.

Casual Transport Pay Rates

Casual workers get a 25% loading on top of the base rate. This compensates for no paid leave, no notice period, and no redundancy pay. Here's what that looks like for each level:

Transport Penalty Rates

Penalty rates are calculated on the base rate (Level 1: $24.95/hr). Casual employees receive penalty rates on their base rate before casual loading is applied.

What is the minimum pay rate for truck drivers in 2026?

The minimum base rate for transport workers is $24.95/hr (Grade 1) under the Transport and Distribution Award. A Grade 5 driver earns $27.59/hr. Grade 6 (heavy vehicle) pays $28.50/hr base.

Do truck drivers get overtime?

Yes. Overtime is paid at 1.5x for the first 2 hours and 2.0x after that. Afternoon shifts get a 15% loading and night shifts get 30%. Saturday is 1.5x and Sunday is double time.

What is the difference between the Transport Award and Road Transport Award?

The Transport and Distribution Award covers general transport and logistics. The Road Transport and Distribution Award specifically covers long-distance and heavy vehicle driving. The applicable award depends on the type of transport work you do.

Are delivery drivers covered by the Transport Award?

Employee delivery drivers are generally covered by the Transport and Distribution Award. However, gig economy delivery riders (Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.) are typically classified as independent contractors and are not covered by any award.
