What is FairWork Mate AI?
FairWork Mate AI is a free Australian workplace advisor that answers questions about your pay, leave, redundancy, dismissal, awards, and workplace rights — grounded on the Fair Work Act 2009, all 122 modern awards, and a live database of more than 260 Fair Work Commission and Federal Court decisions.
It's available now at fairworkmate.com.au/advisor. Free users get 2 questions per day, no signup required. For ongoing help we have paid tiers from $9.99 a month.
Why this is different from ChatGPT
General-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are trained on global English data. The Australian-specific bits — the Fair Work Act, the modern awards, the recent FWC and Federal Court decisions — are buried deep under US and UK content. They give you confident-sounding answers that are out of date or wrong on Australian specifics.
FairWork Mate AI is built differently. Three things make it accurate where general AI isn't:
- Live case law database. We ingest every FWC, Federal Court, and Federal Circuit decision daily. When you ask about unfair dismissal or redundancy, the AI cites the relevant recent case by name and links to our summary of the decision.
- 14 deterministic calculator tools. When you ask “how much overtime am I owed,” the AI calls a real calculator using the actual award rate — not a hallucinated number.
- Australian-first reasoning. The system prompt forces AU-specific reasoning and rejects off-topic queries (translation, code generation, etc.) so we keep the answers focused.
How it works
You type a question. The AI:
- Triages it for complexity and topic.
- Pulls the most relevant 1-3 cases from our live database (paid tiers).
- Calls a calculator tool if the question is numeric (e.g. pay rates).
- Writes a plain-English answer with citations to the source decisions.
You see exactly which case it relied on and can click through to read our summary or the original judgment. This is the part competitors can't copy — static blog content goes stale, our database refreshes daily.
Tiers and pricing
Five consumer + business tiers, with full pricing at /pricing:
- Free — 2 questions per day. Great for one-off lookups.
- Day Pass $4.99 — 25 questions in 24 hours. For when you need to work through a single workplace issue with full case-law access.
- Plus $9.99/month — 50 questions per month. Sonnet 4.6 model with prompt caching. Live case-law citations on every answer. Cancel anytime.
- Pro $29.99/month — 150 questions, plus document upload (review your contract, your payslip, your warning letter), plus Opus 4.7 reasoning on complex questions.
- Business $499/month — for HR teams without a dedicated HR manager. 300 questions per month, employer-framed answers, document upload, bulk pay-rate audits.
And $2,499/month Premium for HR teams with multiple seats and document-heavy workflows.
What it can't do
Two things to be clear about:
- It's not legal advice. The AI gives general information. For your specific situation, contact the Fair Work Ombudsman on 13 13 94 or a workplace lawyer. We say this on every answer.
- It's not perfect. AI makes mistakes, even with case-law grounding. Always verify the figures and dates against the underlying source we cite. We surface sources specifically so you can verify.
Our PII scrubber automatically removes personal details (name, phone, tax file number, address) before your message reaches the AI. Sessions are stored 30 days for abuse detection then deleted. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Try it now
Open the AI advisor at /advisor. No signup, 2 questions/day free. Ask anything — pay disputes, redundancy maths, casual conversion, dismissal, leave, super, public holidays, awards.
If you're a small business owner without an HR team, the Business tier at $499/month is built for you — an HR brain that reads every FWC decision the day it drops, for less than four hours of a HR generalist's time.
The full pricing comparison is at /pricing.
