Numbers are kept current. We publish what we actually ship and reach — not inflated "users" or vanity counts.

Why we exist

Australian workplace law is dense. 122 Modern Awards, the National Employment Standards, the Fair Work Act, state-level work health and safety regimes, and a stream of FWC and Federal Court decisions that quietly change the meaning of all of it. The Fair Work Ombudsman recovers hundreds of millions in underpayments every year — often from employers who genuinely didn't know the rules.

We think everyone deserves the answer for free, with the citation attached, in the time it takes to look up an Uber.

How the AI is different

FairWork Mate AI is not a wrapper around ChatGPT. It's a retrieval-grounded system built on a daily-updated library of 1,600 Fair Work Commission and Federal Court decisions, 13,973 Australian enterprise agreements, the current Modern Awards, the National Employment Standards, and recent legislative reforms (Secure Jobs Better Pay 2022, Closing Loopholes 2023-24, Payday Super 2026).

Every answer cites the underlying statute section or case by name and year. The AI refuses to answer when the source isn't available — it doesn't hallucinate Australian-sounding citations the way general- purpose models do.

Personal information (names, TFN, ABN, phone, email) is scrubbed client-side before processing. Data residency is Australian. Chat history is retained for 30 days for abuse detection then deleted.

Built on

The stack is deliberately mainstream — we'd rather use boring, well-supported tools and ship features than chase novelty.

  • ·Next.js 16 App Router · React 19 · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS v4
  • ·Vercel (production hosting + serverless functions, AU edge)
  • ·Supabase Postgres + pgvector (case-law retrieval)
  • ·Anthropic Claude (AI advisor, Australian data residency)
  • ·Resend (email infrastructure, domain-verified)
  • ·Stripe (consumer + business subscriptions)

The honest disclaimer

FairWork Mate provides general information and AI-assisted research — not legal advice. For anything in dispute or with high financial stakes, contact the Fair Work Ombudsman on 13 13 94, or a workplace lawyer.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with the Fair Work Ombudsman, Fair Work Commission, or the Australian Government. Where we cite their data we link the original source.

Editorial standards & corrections

Articles are reviewed against the underlying statute or case before publishing. Every calculator and AI answer cites its source. If we get something wrong, we want to fix it fast.
