Who covers HBF workers — award or agreement?
HBF is Western Australia's largest health insurer and the second-largest not-for-profit health fund in the country, with a growing footprint in the eastern states, plus HBF dental clinics and the Life Ready physiotherapy business. Its workforce is member service and contact-centre staff, claims and sales consultants, dental and allied health clinicians and corporate staff in Perth.
HBF staff are covered by the HBF enterprise agreement (below), sitting above the Banking, Finance and Insurance Award 2020 for insurance roles. The award ladder is tabled below as the floor for member service, claims and administration roles; dental and physiotherapy staff sit on the Health Professionals and Support Services Award instead.

The HBF enterprise agreements
Enterprise agreements set rates above the award, with their own classification structures and allowances. Current HBF agreements in our corpus (1 in total):
- HBF Enterprise Agreement 2024 — approved October 2024, nominal expiry 25 November 2027.
We don't reproduce agreement dollar figures here — the agreement covering your site, state and stream is the document to read. Find your agreement, then your classification, then your pay point, and compare it with your payslip. The award tables on this page are the floor every one of these agreements must beat.
Common financial services pay issues at HBF
The patterns worth checking on a HBF payslip:
- Annualised salaries that don't cover overtime — contact-centre and branch staff regularly working past the award's ordinary span.
- Level 1–2 for experienced consultant work.
- Unpaid log-in time before shifts start and unpaid after-call work.
- Rostered Saturdays without the award or agreement loading.
What to do if your pay looks wrong
Match your payslip to your classification in the agreement (or the award tables above), and price any gap with our back-pay calculator. Raise it in writing with payroll or your manager first — most underpayments are fixed at that step. Unresolved, the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94) recovers underpayments at no cost, up to six years back, and your union can run the claim for you. Not sure which instrument covers you?
