Who covers Macquarie Group workers — award or agreement?

Macquarie Group is the country's largest investment bank and a fast-growing retail bank, employing bankers, traders and analysts alongside a large operations, technology and Macquarie Bank customer-service workforce in Sydney and other capitals. Most roles are salaried well above award, with bonuses a large part of pay.

Macquarie does not bargain enterprise agreements — our corpus holds none — so the Banking, Finance and Insurance Award 2020 is the legal floor for award-covered roles such as banking operations, customer service and administration. The award ladder is tabled below; front-office and professional roles are typically award-free on contract.

The federal awards relevant to Macquarie Group roles:

  • Banking, Finance and Insurance Award 2020 (MA000019)

Annual salaries in the award are converted to hourly at ÷52.18 weeks ÷38 hours. The award's ordinary hours span 7am–7pm Monday to Friday and 8am–1pm Saturday; work outside that attracts penalties.

Does Macquarie Group have an enterprise agreement?

As at 6 September 2026, our corpus of 14,141 federally registered enterprise agreements holds no current agreement for Macquarie Group. That usually means one of three things: the employer pays on the award (or on individual contracts above it), the agreement covering you is registered under a different entity name (check the employer name on your payslip and search our agreements database), or — for state public-sector employers — pay is set by a state award or agreement outside the federal register. If you have a copy of an agreement that names Macquarie Group, it beats the award figures above.

Common financial services pay issues at Macquarie Group

The patterns worth checking on a Macquarie Group payslip:

  • Annualised salaries that don't cover overtime — contact-centre and branch staff regularly working past the award's ordinary span.
  • Level 1–2 for experienced consultant work.
  • Unpaid log-in time before shifts start and unpaid after-call work.
  • Rostered Saturdays without the award or agreement loading.

What to do if your pay looks wrong

Match your payslip to your classification in the agreement (or the award tables above), and price any gap with our back-pay calculator. Raise it in writing with payroll or your manager first — most underpayments are fixed at that step. Unresolved, the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94) recovers underpayments at no cost, up to six years back, and your union can run the claim for you. Not sure which instrument covers you?
