Who covers Viva Energy (Reddy Express, Coles Express, OTR) workers — award or agreement?
Viva Energy became the country's biggest convenience retailer when it bought the Coles Express network (now rebranding to Reddy Express) and South Australia's OTR chain, on top of its Shell-branded fuel supply, the Geelong refinery and the Liberty network. Store staff and console operators make up most of its workforce, with refinery, terminal and distribution staff behind them.
Store staff at company-operated sites are covered by the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award 2020 — the award that has its own console-operator classifications — while the former Coles Express and OTR agreements and the refinery agreements sit above it (below). The award ladder is the floor across every banner.

Service-station and convenience-store staff sit on the retail, service and repair (RS&R) stream of the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award 2020 (MA000089):
| Classification | Permanent | Casual (incl. 25%) |
|---|---|---|
| RS&R Level 1 — driveway attendant, store assistant (entry) | $25.74/hr | $32.17/hr |
| RS&R Level 2 — roadhouse attendant cooking takeaway | $26.44/hr | $33.05/hr |
| RS&R Level 4 — console operator; roadhouse attendant cooking other than takeaway | $27.97/hr | $34.96/hr |
Console operators working alone, night shifts and weekends attract the award's own loadings — the award publishes loaded console-operator rates for Monday–Friday, weekend and overtime hours. Check a specific shift with the penalty rates calculator.

Common fuel retail pay issues at Viva Energy (Reddy Express, Coles Express, OTR)
The patterns worth checking on a Viva Energy (Reddy Express, Coles Express, OTR) payslip:
- Console operators working alone at night without the award's loaded rates.
