Daniel Nguyen
Payroll & Compliance Editor
Cabramatta, Sydney, NSW
Pay calculations, super compliance, and the Payday Super rollout.
About Daniel
Daniel spent six years running payroll for a family-owned commercial building firm in Western Sydney — around 140 staff across three sites, turnover north of $40 million a year, and the kind of award complexity that makes single-rate office payroll look like a holiday. Different classifications for different trades on the same scaffold. Site allowances. RDOs nobody tracked properly. EBA side-deals documented in a spreadsheet only one person remembered the password to.
He left in 2022 to focus on compliance writing and contract payroll work. The writing started almost by accident — he got sick of answering the same questions from apprentices about why their super was lower than their mate's, and figured that if he wrote the answer down once, he could send a link. A few of those explainers were picked up by small business publications, and FairWork Mate brought him on in mid-2024 to cover pay calculations, super compliance, and the incoming Payday Super transition.
Daniel is a registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board and holds a Cert IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. He is particularly focused on the 1 July 2026 Payday Super rollout — partly because he's lived through every SG rate increase since the 9.5% days, and partly because he knows how many small employers are walking into that transition blind.
Based in Cabramatta, Sydney. Two kids under ten. Terrifyingly opinionated about Xero versus MYOB, which you should not get him started on. Long-suffering Parramatta Eels supporter.
