Is Coles covered by an enterprise agreement?

Yes. Coles supermarket team members are covered by Coles' single-enterprise agreement, which was approved by the Fair Work Commission (with undertakings from Coles). It sits on top of the General Retail Industry Award (MA000004) — the award remains the legal floor your agreement pay can never fall below.

The agreement covers the usual Coles roles: checkout and service, shelf and night-fill, deli and bakery, online and click-and-collect.

How Coles agreement pay compares to the award

Because of the Better Off Overall Test, the Coles agreement has to leave team members better off overall than the General Retail Industry Award. In practice agreements like this lift the base rate and adjust how some penalties are structured.

For the current verified hourly rates by age and employment type, see our dedicated Coles pay rates 2026 page, and check the award floor with the retail award pay rate tool. We keep dollar figures on those pages so they stay current and sourced.

Key conditions the agreement sets

Beyond the base rate, a Coles agreement typically sets out penalty rates for evenings, weekends and public holidays, casual loading, overtime, allowances, and rostering and break entitlements. The exact structure is in the approved agreement document — see how to find it below.

To sanity-check a specific weekend or public-holiday shift, use our penalty rates calculator.

How to check your Coles pay is right

Compare your payslip against your classification level in the agreement, then against the award floor. If the numbers don't add up, run them through our underpayment checker. Large-employer underpayments do happen — checking takes a few minutes and you can generally recover up to six years of any shortfall.

Where to read the Coles agreement

The full approved agreement is public on the Fair Work Commission's Find an Enterprise Agreement register (search "Coles"). The SDA (the retail union) also publishes the agreement and a summary for members. For the bigger picture on how agreements work, see our guide to enterprise agreements in Australia.
