How much is Carer Allowance in 2026?

From 20 March 2026, Carer Allowance is $162.60 per fortnight (about $4,227.60 a year). It is a flat supplement — the same amount whether you care for an adult or a child under 16. It is NOT assets tested.

What is the income test for Carer Allowance?

Your and your partner's combined adjusted taxable income must be under $250,000 per financial year. There is no assets test. Your work income does not reduce Carer Allowance as long as you stay under the $250,000 limit.

What is the difference between Carer Allowance and Carer Payment?

Carer Allowance is a flat fortnightly supplement ($162.60/fn) for people who give daily care. It is not assets tested and has a high $250,000 income test. Carer Payment is a separate income-support payment paid at the Age Pension rate, which is both income and asset tested. You can receive Carer Allowance on top of Carer Payment or while working.

Can I get Carer Allowance while working?
