Subway award coverage
Subway sandwich artists are covered by the Fast Food Industry Award (MA000003). Almost every Subway in Australia is a franchise, so your employer is the franchisee, not Subway corporate. The award applies regardless.
Subway adult rates 2026
From 1 July 2025:
- Level 1 (sandwich artist): $24.95/hr permanent / $31.19/hr casual
- Level 2 (cook, trainer): $25.40/hr / $31.75/hr
- Level 3 (shift supervisor): $26.06/hr / $32.58/hr
Junior rates
Under 21 percentages:
- Under 16: $9.98/hr (40%)
- 16: $12.48/hr (50%)
- 17: $14.97/hr (60%)
- 18: $17.47/hr (70%)
- 19: $19.96/hr (80%)
- 20: $22.46/hr (90%)
Subway penalty rates
Saturday: $31.19/hr · Sunday: $37.42/hr · Public holiday: $56.14/hr
Late-night: 10pm-midnight 110% · midnight-6am 115%.
Subway underpayment history
Subway franchisees have repeatedly featured in Fair Work Ombudsman wage compliance audits, particularly around junior rates, late-night loadings, and incorrect classification. Several Subway franchises have signed Enforceable Undertakings with the FWO. If your pay looks wrong, raise it — past cases show the FWO acts on Subway underpayments.
