How do I build Working Credit?

You build Working Credit in any fortnight your total income from paid work and investments — not counting Centrelink payments — is under $48. You can add up to 48 credits in a fortnight.

What's the maximum Working Credit balance I can build up?

The balance cap is 1,000 credits on JobSeeker Payment, Parenting Payment, Disability Support Pension and Carer Payment. It's higher — 3,500 credits — on Youth Allowance as a job seeker.

Can I get Working Credit on Special Benefit?

No. Special Benefit is not on Services Australia's list of payments that build or use Working Credit.

What if I'm a full-time student, or on the Age Pension?

Full-time students on Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY Living Allowance use a separate scheme called the Income Bank instead of Working Credit. The Age Pension uses the Work Bonus instead. Check your current balance and rate for either scheme directly with Services Australia.
