How much do you get paid for a sleepover under the SCHADS Award?

You get a sleepover allowance of $62.87 per night (4.9% of the SCHADS standard rate of $1,283.10/week, 2026-27). It is the same flat amount for every classification. If you're woken to do work, that work is paid separately at overtime (150%) with a minimum of 1 hour each time, and at least one shift attached to the sleepover must be paid as a minimum 4-hour engagement.

Is the $63 sleepover allowance all I get?

No. The $62.87 allowance covers being available overnight. It stacks with three other things: pay for the rostered shift before or after the sleepover (minimum 4 hours), overtime for any work you do if woken (minimum 1 hour at 150%), and the relevant weekend or public holiday penalty on those attached hours.

Do I get paid extra if I'm woken up during a sleepover?

Yes. Any work performed during a sleepover is paid at overtime rates (150% for the first 2 hours) with a minimum payment of 1 hour every time you're disturbed, on top of the sleepover allowance.

What changed for SCHADS sleepovers in June 2026?

From the first full pay period on or after 1 June 2026, a sleepover no longer counts as a break in your shift. Work and the shifts immediately before and after the sleepover are assessed separately for penalty rates, which can increase what you're owed.
