How often must a safety data sheet be reviewed?

Manufacturers and importers must review and update a safety data sheet every 5 years. Every SDS must state the date it was last reviewed — check that date, not the date you received the document, to see if a review is due.

Do I have to keep safety data sheets at the workplace?

Yes. If you supply, use or store hazardous chemicals, you must keep copies of the SDS at the workplace. An SDS may be paper or electronic — if it's published on a website, you must still provide a paper copy on request.

What must a hazardous chemicals register contain?

If you store, handle or use hazardous chemicals, you must prepare, maintain and provide access to a hazardous chemicals register, and keep SDS copies in it. Use the Hazardous Chemicals Register Builder to set one up, including your placarding and manifest duties.
