How much is the on-call allowance in 2026?
From 1 July 2026, per 24-hour period or part of one: SCHADS pays $25.66 from finishing duty on Monday to finishing duty on Friday and $50.81 for any other period or public holiday (cl 20.11). The Nurses Award pays $28.66 Monday to Friday, $43.17 Saturday and $50.37 on a Sunday, public holiday or non-rostered day (cl 17.2(a)). The Health Professionals Award pays $26.34 Monday to Saturday and $52.56 on a Sunday or public holiday (cl 23.2(d)).
What is the minimum payment if I'm recalled to work?
SCHADS: at least 2 hours' pay for each recall to a workplace (cl 28.4). Nurses: at least 3 hours at overtime rates if recalled to the workplace while on call, or 1 hour for work by phone or online (cl 19.6). Health Professionals: at least 2 hours at overtime rates (cl 25.6). The recall pay is on top of the on-call allowance.
Is a 16-hour on-call shift one allowance or two?
One. Each award pays the allowance per 24-hour period or part of one, so 16 hours earns one allowance and 30 hours earns two. Under the Nurses Award the whole period takes the rate of the day on which most of it falls (cl 17.2(a)(ii)).
Is the on-call allowance included in super?
The ATO withdrew SGR 2009/2 from 1 July 2026. Its draft replacement, LCR 2026/D1 (paras 85–86), says an on-call allowance paid for hours you would not otherwise be working is not ordinary time earnings, so on its own it doesn't attract Super Guarantee. An on-call allowance paid as a loading on your ordinary hours is ordinary time earnings. LCR 2026/D1 is still a draft.
What overtime rate applies to a recall?
For full-time and part-time employees under the Nurses and Health Professionals awards, and full-time SCHADS employees: 150% for the first 2 hours then 200% Monday to Saturday (the first 3 hours for SCHADS social and community services and crisis accommodation workers), 200% on Sunday and 250% on public holidays. Health Professionals casuals get 187.5% then 250%, 250% on Sunday and 312.5% on public holidays (cl 25.3).
