When do I report if my reporting day is a public holiday?
Services Australia closes on national public holidays — New Year's Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day — and changes reporting and payment dates around them, usually letting you report and get paid early. The exact adjusted dates are only published in the lead-up to each holiday (the Christmas 2025 arrangements were announced on 8 December 2025), so check your myGov Centrelink online account closer to the day — it shows your dates 12 weeks ahead. You can still lodge a report on a closed day using self service, but if you report on a national public holiday you'll be paid after it.
Will I get paid early over the holidays?
Usually, yes — if your payment date falls on or just after a national public holiday, Services Australia generally pays you early. The trap: it is not an extra payment. In the agency's own words, “it's your regular payment paid early” — so the same money has to stretch across a longer gap until your next normal payday. If you're paid on the Wednesday instead of the following Monday, that's five extra days the payment has to cover. Plan for the gap before you spend it.
What happens if I report late — or after 5 pm?
Report by 5 pm local time on your reporting date, online, in the Express Plus Centrelink app, or on the reporting line 133 276 (13 EARN). Report late and your payment is late — and if you don't report at all, you won't be paid. Online reporting stays open for up to 13 days after your reporting date; if you're later than that, you have to call your regular payment line. Miss two weeks entirely and your payment can stop. Online, app and phone self service run 24/7, including public holidays.
Can I report before my reporting period ends?
Normally you report on your reporting date, not before. Around public holidays, Services Australia opens early reporting from a date it announces with each holiday's arrangements — usually a few days before the holiday. If you report early you're reporting for days you haven't worked yet, so you're estimating: if the real figure turns out different, correct your report straight away online or in the app (you can fix a report up to 6 fortnights back — older than that, phone). Don't wait for your next reporting day to fix it.
Do state public holidays change my dates too?
Services Australia's published guidance covers national public holidays — the seven closure days listed above. On state-only holidays (Melbourne Cup Day, WA Day, state Labour Days) your local service centre may close, but reporting and payment dates aren't adjusted nationally the way they are at Christmas or Easter. One caution: actual closures can exceed the gazetted list — the agency also closed Monday 29 December 2025, which wasn't a public holiday anywhere — so treat the published arrangements, and your myGov account, as the final word.
