Who covers RACV workers — award or agreement?

RACV is the Victorian motoring club, known for roadside assistance and insurance but also a significant hospitality operator through its network of clubs and resorts across regional Victoria. Staff span resort and club hospitality roles — front office, food and beverage, housekeeping — alongside call-centre and member-service teams.

Resort and club roles sit on the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020 floor. RACV has several registered enterprise agreements in our corpus covering its clubs and resorts, roadside assistance centre and member engagement teams (listed below where our corpus holds them); the award tables below are the minimum any of those agreements must beat.

The federal awards relevant to RACV roles:

  • Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020 (MA000009)

Weekend, late-night and public holiday penalties apply on top — check a specific shift with the penalty rates calculator. Junior rates apply under 21 (percentages of the adult rate, except that liquor-service roles are adult-rated from 18).

The RACV enterprise agreements

Enterprise agreements set rates above the award, with their own classification structures and allowances. Current RACV agreements in our corpus (4 in total):

We don't reproduce agreement dollar figures here — the agreement covering your site, state and stream is the document to read. Find your agreement, then your classification, then your pay point, and compare it with your payslip. The award tables on this page are the floor every one of these agreements must beat.

Common hospitality pay issues at RACV

The patterns worth checking on a RACV payslip:

  • Flat rates that don't beat the penalties — an 'all-in' hourly rate must leave you better off than the award's weekend, late-night and public holiday loadings for your actual roster.
  • Unpaid set-up and pack-down before opening and after close.
  • Introductory level for too long — it is a three-month, no-experience rate, not a permanent grade.
  • Split and broken shifts without the award's allowances, and casual shifts under the minimum engagement.

What to do if your pay looks wrong

Match your payslip to your classification in the agreement (or the award tables above), and price any gap with our back-pay calculator. Raise it in writing with payroll or your manager first — most underpayments are fixed at that step. Unresolved, the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94) recovers underpayments at no cost, up to six years back, and your union can run the claim for you. Not sure which instrument covers you?
