Who covers Dreamworld workers — award or agreement?

Dreamworld is a Gold Coast theme park owned by Ardent Leisure, running rides, animal attractions and a water park on a single large site. Its workforce covers ride operators, retail and food and beverage staff, animal attraction keepers and park services staff, rostered heavily around school holidays and weekends.

Dreamworld roles are covered by the Amusement, Events and Recreation Award 2020, which sets separate junior and adult rates across ride operations, retail and food and beverage classifications. Our corpus holds no current Dreamworld enterprise agreement, so the award tables below are what should be on your payslip unless your contract or a newer agreement says otherwise.

The federal awards relevant to Dreamworld roles:

  • Amusement, Events and Recreation Award 2020 (MA000080)

Amusement and recreation award floor (1 July 2026)

Theme park, bowling, play-centre and attraction staff sit on the Amusement, Events and Recreation Award 2020 (MA000080). The adult minimums are:

ClassificationPermanentCasual (incl. 25%)
Introductory level$25.74/hr$32.17/hr
Grade 1$26.44/hr$33.05/hr
Grade 2$27.08/hr$33.85/hr
Grade 3$27.97/hr$34.96/hr
Grade 4$29.45/hr$36.81/hr
Grade 5$30.38/hr$37.98/hr
Grade 6$31.29/hr$39.11/hr

Which grade you are on depends on the duties and skills the award's classification definitions describe, not your job title — ask for your grade in writing if it isn't on your payslip. Weekend, public holiday and late-night work attract the award's own penalty rates; check a specific shift with the penalty rates calculator.

Junior rates (under 21)

The Amusement, Events and Recreation Award pays juniors a percentage of the Grade 1 adult rate. From 1 July 2026 the junior minimums are:

  • Under 17: $14.54/hr
  • 17 years: $17.19/hr
  • 18 years: $19.83/hr
  • 19 years: $22.47/hr

Your rate must step up from the first full pay period after each birthday. Casual juniors add the 25% loading on top of these figures. An enterprise agreement's junior scale must leave you better off than this ladder overall.

Does Dreamworld have an enterprise agreement?

As at 25 September 2026, our corpus of 14,141 federally registered enterprise agreements holds no current agreement for Dreamworld. That usually means one of three things: the employer pays on the award (or on individual contracts above it), the agreement covering you is registered under a different entity name (check the employer name on your payslip and search our agreements database), or — for state public-sector employers — pay is set by a state award or agreement outside the federal register. If you have a copy of an agreement that names Dreamworld, it beats the award figures above.

Common leisure and attractions pay issues at Dreamworld

The patterns worth checking on a Dreamworld payslip:

  • Introductory level for too long — it is an entry rate for new starters, not a permanent grade; check the award for when you must move up.
  • Junior rates not stepping up on birthdays.
  • Unpaid opening checks, ride inspections and close-down outside rostered hours.
  • Weekend, public holiday and school-holiday peak shifts paid at the ordinary casual rate, and short shifts under the award's minimum engagement.

What to do if your pay looks wrong

Match your payslip to your classification in the agreement (or the award tables above), and price any gap with our back-pay calculator. Raise it in writing with payroll or your manager first — most underpayments are fixed at that step. Unresolved, the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94) recovers underpayments at no cost, up to six years back, and your union can run the claim for you. Not sure which instrument covers you?
