Who covers Certis Security workers — award or agreement?
Certis Security provides guarding and security services, with a presence at major airports including Sydney and Adelaide, and trades in part under the long-standing Sydney Night Patrol & Inquiry name for some of its contracts. Its workforce covers frontline security officers and supervisors, with a meaningful share of casual employment.
The Security Services Industry Award 2020 is the floor for guarding and patrol roles. Certis has registered enterprise agreements for specific airport security contracts, including at Sydney and Adelaide airports — listed below where our corpus holds them — and each must leave employees better off overall than the award.

The Certis Security enterprise agreements
Enterprise agreements set rates above the award, with their own classification structures and allowances. Current Certis Security agreements in our corpus (2 in total):
- Certis Security Australia and Transport Workers’ Union Adelaide Airport Enterprise Agreement 2023 — approved February 2024, nominal expiry 1 May 2027.
- Certis Security Australia Sydney Airport Agreement 2024 — approved April 2024, nominal expiry 31 August 2026.
We don't reproduce agreement dollar figures here — the agreement covering your site, state and stream is the document to read. Find your agreement, then your classification, then your pay point, and compare it with your payslip. The award tables on this page are the floor every one of these agreements must beat.
Common security pay issues at Certis Security
The patterns worth checking on a Certis Security payslip:
- Level 1 for control-room, senior or supervisory work.
- Night, weekend and overtime loadings absorbed into a flat rate that doesn't beat the award for the roster.
- Unpaid handover, briefing and travel between sites.
- Long shifts without the award's overtime and rest-break rules.
What to do if your pay looks wrong
Match your payslip to your classification in the agreement (or the award tables above), and price any gap with our back-pay calculator. Raise it in writing with payroll or your manager first — most underpayments are fixed at that step. Unresolved, the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94) recovers underpayments at no cost, up to six years back, and your union can run the claim for you. Not sure which instrument covers you?
