Swissport Pay Rates 2026: Ramp, Baggage & Ground Crew Pay

Swissport is the ground-handling contractor that loads and unloads aircraft, drives tugs and belt loaders, handles baggage and runs check-in and lounge services for airlines at most major and regional airports — including much of the work Qantas outsourced in 2020. Ramp and baggage handlers, customer service agents and aircraft cleaners make up the workforce.

Swissport ground staff are covered by the Airline Operations—Ground Staff Award 2020, with Swissport enterprise agreements at various ports (below). The award's ground-crew ladder is tabled below; shift, weekend and public-holiday loadings are a large part of airport pay.

Airport rosters run around the clock — the award's shift, weekend and public holiday loadings and its minimum-engagement rules are where most ground-crew pay disputes sit.
