What award covers Guzman y Gomez workers?
GYG crew are covered by the Fast Food Industry Award (MA000003) — the same award as McDonald's, KFC and Hungry Jack's. It sets the minimum pay; GYG can pay above it under an enterprise agreement, but never below the award floor.

GYG adult hourly rates (21 and over)
As of 1 July 2025, the Fast Food Industry Award minimum adult rates are:
- Level 1 (crew — front counter, kitchen, drive-through): $24.73/hr
- Level 2 (experienced crew / crew trainer): $25.34/hr
- Level 3 (shift supervisor): $26.10/hr
Casuals add 25% — a Level 1 adult casual gets at least $30.91/hr. From the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026, these award rates rise 4.75%.
GYG junior pay rates (under 21)
Junior rates are a percentage of the adult Level 1 rate:
- Under 16: $11.13/hr (45%)
- 16 years: $12.37/hr (50%)
- 17 years: $14.84/hr (60%)
- 18 years: $17.31/hr (70%)
- 19 years: $19.78/hr (80%)
- 20 years: $22.26/hr (90%)
Casual loading and penalty rates at GYG
Penalty rates for a Level 1 adult permanent crew member under the Fast Food Award:
- Saturday: 125% — $30.91/hr
- Sunday: 150% — $37.10/hr
- Public holidays: 225% — $55.64/hr
- Late night (10pm–midnight): 115% — $28.44/hr
- After midnight: 130% — $32.15/hr
Casuals get 150% on Saturdays, 175% on Sundays and 250% on public holidays (calculated on the base rate). Late-trade stores mean evening penalties matter — check yours with the penalty rates calculator.
Common pay issues at GYG
- Missing late-night and weekend penalties on closing shifts.
- Age increases not applied when you turn a year older.
- Unpaid time for opening setup or close-down cleaning.
- Wrong classification — doing crew-trainer (Level 2) work on Level 1 pay.
