Does FairWork Mate send the letter for me?

No. We generate a PDF that you download and send yourself, under your own name. We never contact your employer on your behalf and do not store the generated letter.

Should I try the Fair Work Ombudsman before sending a letter?

Yes, usually. The Fair Work Ombudsman is the national regulator for workplace pay. They investigate underpayment claims for free and can recover wages on your behalf. For most situations this is faster and more effective than a letter. Call 13 13 94 or visit fairwork.gov.au.

How far back can I raise a pay query?

Under the Fair Work Act 2009, underpayment claims can generally be made for up to 6 years from the date you make the claim. If you are unsure whether your situation is within time, the Fair Work Ombudsman can help you check.
