How do I find the minimum pay rate for my modern award?

Are these the official Fair Work pay rates?

Yes. Every figure comes from the Fair Work Commission's Modern Awards Pay Database and reflects the current operative minimum rate for that classification. An enterprise agreement can pay above the award but not below it.

Why do the penalty rates show a range instead of one number?

Awards set different penalty rates for different shifts and hours-bands — for example the first 4 hours worked on a Saturday versus after 4 hours, or day shift versus rotating night shift. A single classification can therefore have many penalty figures, so the tool shows the lowest and highest official value in each category.

Do the rates include casual loading?

The base rate shown is the permanent (full-time/part-time) minimum. Casual employees receive an additional casual loading — usually 25% — on top of the base rate. Check the casual clause of your award for the exact loading.
