A Modern Award is a legally enforceable document that sets minimum pay rates, hours, rosters, breaks, allowances, and leave for employees in a particular industry or occupation. There are over 120 Modern Awards in Australia.

Awards sit on top of the National Employment Standards (NES). Your employer must pay you at least the award rate — they can pay more, but never less.
