Sydney Water EBA — pay rates & enterprise agreement

Sydney Water pay and conditions are set by the enterprise agreement listed below, approved by the Fair Work Commission and sourced from its public document register. An enterprise agreement (sometimes shortened to EBA — enterprise bargaining agreement) sits on top of the underlying Modern Award for the workers it covers.

What an EBA means for Sydney Water pay

An enterprise agreement (EA, often called an EBA) is a workplace-specific agreement between an employer and its employees — usually negotiated with a union — that sets pay rates and conditions. It must be approved by the Fair Work Commission, and the Commission can only approve it if every covered employee is better off overall than they would be under the relevant Modern Award (the "Better Off Overall Test", or BOOT). Once approved, the agreement replaces the award for the people it covers — but the award never disappears: it's the floor the agreement is tested against, and it's what applies to any Sydney Water role the agreement doesn't cover.

An agreement past its nominal expiry date hasn't lapsed — under the Fair Work Act it keeps operating until it's formally terminated or replaced by a new one, which is why some of the agreements above can be several years past their listed expiry date and still be the live agreement.
